Current Road Work

This page contains information on lane restrictions that may be present during road construction in the City of Rio Rancho. Information will be updated on this page as it becomes available. Motorists traveling within construction zones are urged to drive with caution and observe traffic control devices. Remember to always wear your seat belt and drive the speed limit.
Current Projects:
Click on the link above to view all current projects that are in design, right-of-way acquisition, construction, or those by other Government Agencies that are occurring within Rio Rancho City Limits.

19th Street SE:

City crews will be adding millings to 19th Street SE between Vargas Road to Westside Boulevard to make 19th Street a low water crossing.  Citizens will be detoured via Southern Boulevard and 15th Street SE.  Work will begin August 28, 2019 - September 7, 2019.
Neighborhood Streets Improvement Project:
Work for the Neighborhood Streets Improvement Project will be typically from 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, and weekends and evening hours as needed. Please click on the project title for estimate starting dates for crack patching and crack sealing on specific roads.
Southern Boulevard Phase 1 Project:
Work for the Southern Boulevard Phase 1 Project from NM 528 to Golf Course Road will be from September 24, 2018 - September 24, 2019.  During construction the speed limit will be reduced to 30 mph.
  • Effective May 15, 2019: Traffic has transitioned from the south side to the north side of the newly constructed Southern Boulevard between NM 528 and Golf Course Road. The roadway lane configuration remains similar with one lane in each direction (east and west) and a left turn lane. Please pay attention to traffic control devices and signing to maneuver through the configuration.
  • Traffic Notification October 1, 2019: Southbound Sara Road at Southern Boulevard is closed for 7-10 days. Please follow detour signs.  The intersection of Robin Road/Place open and available for emergency vehicle access only. Sara Road is anticipated to reopen Monday, October 7, barring any significant rain or weather events that may cause delays.
  • Effective October 14, 2019:  The contractor for the Southern Blvd project will switch traffic over to their respective lanes from NM 528 to Pinetree/Robin Rd starting the week of October 14th. Because the contractor is working toward that goal, the area of 38th St SE is not available to open currently. After the switchover is complete, however, 38th St SE and Robin Rd will be reopened. It should be stated that if we receive weather or unforeseen circumstances occur that limit or prevent work, this could delay that switchover.  Once the switchover is complete, the contractor will focus their attention on the portion of Southern Blvd between Sara Rd and Pinetree/Robin Rd. The plan is to complete a switchover in this section during the second week of November. While they are working in this section, the contractor will try to accommodate the request to temporarily open May Circle.
