Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue takes great pride in serving our community through a variety of community engagement events and activities. 

St. Baldrick's Foundation Fundraiser

Every year, RRFR participates in this event by raising funds and awareness of cancers that target children. The money raised through the shaving of heads goes to provide researchers the financial resources they need to find cures for cancers that affect children. A large portion of the money raised benefits local research efforts. This single event has raised over $250,000.00 since 2007, and over $800,000.00 for cancer research and treatment has been returned to NM from the St. Baldrick's Foundation since 2005.The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

Fire Safety Education Program

The Fire Safety Education Program hosts an annual Fire Camp, which is a cooperative effort between RRFR and the City of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation Department. Each day of the camp allows young people a chance to see a varied of disciplines of today’s fire service. The Program also educates approximately 4,000 children between ages of 5-7 about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week. Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Fill the Boot Program

Firefighters have played a major role in funding research for muscular dystrophy. Each year, RRFR personnel hit the streets asking citizens in the community to make a donation to MDA by filling their boot with contributions. 

Go Pink in October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. Every year, RRFR sells t-shirts throughout the month in an effort to increase awareness, raise funds to support UNM cancer research, and as community outreach for those who have been affected by the disease. For over a decade, Rio Rancho has participated in fundraising and awareness efforts.

Annual Open House & Costume Contest

RRFR hosts an Open House and Halloween Costume Contest to celebrate Fire Prevention Month in October. At the event, there are hands-on demonstrations for kids, prizes for the costume contest, and refreshments. Children can climb a firefighter ladder, squirt a real fire hose, and crawl through a fire safety smoke trailer. The event provides a unique opportunity for community members to learn about the department and fire safety.
