Watering Restrictions
From April 1 and lasting through October 31, the City of Rio Rancho’s annual outdoor watering restrictions are in effect.In order to prevent water waste: spray irrigation (a sprinkler device that propels water through the air in the form of small particles or droplets) is prohibited during the hours of 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. for all properties that are within the City Limits as well as those properties that are served by the City’s Water Utility.Watering by hand is allowed during these hours.
Watering restrictions do not apply to water used for dust control or soil compaction, or drip irrigation, low-emitting bubblers, hand watering, or watering of containerized plants and plant stock. Shutoff nozzles are required on any hoses used for hand watering, car washing, or other outdoor uses.
Residents are encouraged to report water waste violations via the City’s Water Conservation Office at (505) 896-8517 or Report Rio Rancho (rrnm.gov/report). If there is no answer, it means that our technician is out in the field looking and issuing violations, please leave a message of the location, date, and time the violation was observed.Those who are not in compliance with the City’s watering restrictions will be subject to fees.

Water Variances:
- Permits and variances from April 1 through October 31 watering restrictions are granted by the City for the following reasons:
1. Repair and maintenance of an irrigation system.
2. Establishment of newly landscaped areas within the first 30 days of planting or watering newly seeded or sodded turf.
3. A single-day irrigation needed for the application of chemicals needed to safeguard an existing or new landscape.
